Short Term Accommodation and Assistance (Respite)
Short Term Accommodation, including respite, is funding for support and accommodation for a short time away from your usual home. It covers the cost of your care in another place for up to 14 days at a time. You might have a short stay with other people, or by yourself. Typically, NDIS fund up to 28 days of short-term accommodation per year and it you can use it in a block of up to 14 days at a time or for one weekend a month. It’s often funded when your usual carers aren’t available, or for you to try new things, develop new skills. The Star Care Group can provide STA/ respite services, tailored towards your needs and Goals.
Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)
NDIA usually fund medium term accommodation for up to 90 days. The funding for MTA is funded by NDIA for participants to live somewhere if they can’t move into their long-term home because their supports aren’t ready for example while you wait for your home modifications to be completed. Funding for medium term accommodation doesn’t include day-to-day living costs like food, internet or electricity. It also doesn’t include any personal care supports, or other supports you get in your home. NDIA fund other disability supports separately if you need them while you stay in medium term accommodation.

- Before your confirmed place in SDA is ready to move into
- Before you can move into a house and start receiving Supported Independent Living (SIL) funding or support with activities of daily living
- Before your home modifications are ready and you can move in
- After leaving hospital, rehabilitation, aged care or a custodial setting. This is where you need somewhere to stay while you wait for your disability supports to be ready.
