Physiotherapy
At Star Care Allied Health, our Physiotherapy services are designed to support people living with disability to improve or maintain movement, mobility, strength, balance and physical function.
Supporting Movement, Mobility and Physical Independence
Being able to move safely and confidently can have a significant impact on your independence and participation in everyday life.
Our Physiotherapists take a person-centred approach, developing practical strategies and programs around your individual abilities, circumstances and goals.
Whether you want to improve your mobility, build strength, increase your confidence with everyday movement or maintain your current physical abilities, we are here to support you.
What Is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy focuses on movement and physical function.
For people living with disability, a Physiotherapist can assess how you move and identify physical barriers that may affect your independence, safety or ability to participate in everyday activities.
Following an assessment, your Physiotherapist can work with you to develop an individualised program based on your needs and goals.
This may involve exercises, movement strategies, mobility training, balance activities, equipment recommendations and practical techniques that can be incorporated into your everyday routine.
How Our Physiotherapists Can Support You
- Mobility Assessments: Assessing your movement and mobility to understand your current abilities and identify areas where additional support may be beneficial.
- Strength and Conditioning: Developing appropriate exercises and activities designed to build or maintain strength and physical capacity.
- Balance and Coordination: Supporting balance, coordination and confidence during everyday movement and activities.
- Falls Prevention: Identifying factors that may increase the risk of falls and developing strategies to support safer movement.
- Sensory Support: Identifying sensory needs and developing practical strategies to support sensory regulation and participation in daily activities.
- Functional Movement: Supporting movements used during everyday activities, such as standing, sitting, walking and moving around your home or community.
- Transfers: Developing strategies to support safer transfers, such as moving between a bed and chair or getting in and out of a vehicle.
- Mobility Aids and Equipment: Assessing your mobility needs and providing recommendations for appropriate mobility aids or equipment where required.
- Physical Capacity Building: Supporting you to develop or maintain the physical abilities needed to participate in everyday activities and work towards greater independence.
- Individual Exercise Programs: Developing exercise programs based on your individual abilities, physical needs and personal goals.
Physiotherapy Focused on Your Goals
Your Physiotherapy program should reflect what you want to achieve.
For one person, that may mean improving balance and confidence while walking. For another, it may involve developing strength for everyday activities, improving transfers or maintaining existing mobility.
We start by understanding your current abilities and what is important to you. From there, we can establish practical goals and develop an individualised approach to support your progress.
Making Movement Part of Everyday Life
Physiotherapy does not need to exist only within an appointment.
Where appropriate, your Physiotherapist can develop practical exercises and movement strategies that can be incorporated into your everyday routine.
With your consent, we may also collaborate with family members, carers, support workers, support coordinators and other professionals involved in your support.
This can help ensure that appropriate strategies are understood and applied consistently in your everyday environment.
